Spills happen, even with the very best prevention measures. They are costly, both environmentally and commercially. But early detection and immediate, efficient response are vital to minimising damage.

 

Sigma S6 can detect even small amounts of oil across a wider range of sea, light and weather conditions, and from further distance.

 

Its superior radar processing capability with its precision motion compensation means vessel based systems can detect oil at speeds over 10 knots. Sigma6 Oil Spill Detection is ceritied by the Norwegian Clean Seas Association for Operating Companies (NOFO) for installation aboard Oil Spill Vessels and is recognised by other Oil producing countries.

 

The Norwegian Coastal Administration has confirmed and proven Sigma S6 capabilities. It was used in a spill in South Eastern Norway and remains in use, detecting oil spills in low light and nighttime conditions.

 

High resolution radar signal processing, with 256 shades of colour display image detail of faint oil spills, as well as small objects on the sea surface.

 

The application of SeaTrack Plot Extractor and Target Tracker provide automatic detection and the outlining of spills and give SigmaS6 OSD its exceptional detection qualities and low rate of false alarms.

 

Sigma's unique Technology is known for its high level performance and used on more 100 ships; ice breakers, oil spill response vessels as well as offshore platforms. It is the result of 20 years of research and development with the purpose of detecting small targets, sea surface anomalies ice and icebergs.

  • Oil spill trials have verified Sigma S6 OSD technology as being capable of detecting oil spills as far out as 7km, with wind speeds at >2 m/s and wave heights of <3 to 4 m.
