SharpEye™ is a radical innovation in radar technology. SharpEye has no magnetron, no modulator and requires minimal maintenance. It uses coherent transmission, which means enhanced, clearer displays as well as a lower through-life maintenance cost for both X and S band radars

Targets are separated from clutter more effectively by Sharp-Eye™ radar because of its differing radial velocity components. This added dimension provides the significant advantage of being able to distinguish small targets amongst clutter, increasing vessel safety.

The use of a solid-state power amplifier, which has an output power peak of just 170W and a duty of 10%, contrasts with a conventional magnetron radars, which have a 30kw output and duty of typically less than 0.05%.

To illuminate targets with sufficient energy for detection, SharpEye™ transmits relatively long pulses. It also transmits a patented sequence of pulses to provide the necessary short range performance. Each pulse is optimised so as to cover a specified, but overlapping range scale.
