LRAD's give commercial ships a powerful Pirate Protection system. These powerful loud hailers give the ship not just the means of issuing a verbal warning to any suspicious boat but can beam a very loud, deafening noise at the would be pirate.
The device is not lethal but has deterrent affect and is used by the US navy and other security services as none leathal weapon. LRAD's look like satellite dishes, weigh around 20 kgs and appear harmless. But once trained on a target they can inflict a narrow beam of sound, which is painful, deafening and debilitating.
LRAD's are long range loud hailing devices designed to communicate with precision. The sound beam of 15 to 30 degrees means a verbal warning can be issued, with authority, up to a distance and beyond of 300 to 500 metres, with the facility for putting out a warning tone.
